ABSTRACT
BACKGROUND
The primary objectives of this study were to investigate the effectiveness of sildenafil citrate and tadalafil in treating erectile dysfunction. The secondary objectives were to investigate the effect of sildenafil and tadalafil on the ejaculation and the post-ejaculation response of men with erectile dysfunction. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of sildenafil and tadalafil on the ejaculation and the post-ejaculation response of men with erectile dysfunction.
METHODS
This was a retrospective study of patients with erectile dysfunction (ED) between January 2015 and December 2017 from a tertiary medical center in India. The patients were evaluated with the Medical and Erectile Function Assessment Questionnaire (MFEQ) at the time of the evaluation of their ED.
RESULTS
A total of 523 patients with ED were included in the study. Of these, 277 (78.7%) were male and 124 (29.3%) were female. The most prevalent age of the patients was 24-35 years (n = 124, 60.6%) and the most common was 45-60 years (n = 277, 77.1%). The most frequent side-effects were headache (n = 277, 79.9%), dyspepsia (n = 277, 81.7%), nausea (n = 277, 70.3%), dizziness (n = 277, 66.5%), and fatigue (n = 277, 71.8%). All the adverse events were reported as mild to moderate in severity.
CONCLUSIONS
Sildenafil and tadalafil can be used as therapeutic agents in treating ED. However, sildenafil is not as effective as tadalafil in treating erectile dysfunction.
